Aegadian Islands

An enchanting archipelago to explore on a gulet cruise between Favignana, Levanzo and Marettimo

Why choose the Aegadian Islands?

A gulet cruise to the Aegadian Islands is the perfect choice for those who want to enjoy a boating experience surrounded by unspoilt nature, crystal-clear sea and ancient culture. The archipelago, located off the western coast of Sicily, consists of three main islands: Favignana, Levanzo and Marettimo, each with its own unique soul and beauty.

Marettimo, the wildest of the islands, is a paradise of biodiversity. Its bays and sea caves can only be reached by sea and offer spectacular scenery for snorkelling. The island is also known as ‘the garden in the middle of the sea’ thanks to its rich vegetation and the presence of paths that climb between the mountains and the sea.
In some coves, you may even have the thrill of spotting monk seals, a protected species that finds refuge in these clear and protected waters.

Levanzo, the smallest of the islands, is a jewel of peace and authenticity. Its smooth pebble beaches, secluded coves and turquoise waters create an atmosphere of absolute tranquillity.
Don’t miss the Grotta del Genovese, which preserves prehistoric graffiti dating back to the Palaeolithic and Neolithic periods, a precious testimony to human history and accessible only by sea.

Favignana, the largest and most famous of the islands, is known for its spectacular cliffs, hidden coves and white beaches. Its former Tonnara Florio, one of the largest in the Mediterranean, is now a museum open to visitors, recounting centuries of fishing and island culture. The island is ideal for excursions on land, swimming in crystal clear waters and stopping off at the small restaurants in the harbour.

Sailing among the Aegadian Islands on a gulet means experiencing the Mediterranean in an authentic way: slow, natural, adventurous and deeply exciting.

Legend has it

Legend has it that before the creation of the earth, there lived a young girl called Deli. Her alluring smile illuminated everything around her.

Unfortunately, joy and gaiety are ephemeral and transitory. The fame of the unparalleled beauty of Deli reached the ears of the eager Pluto, who wanted to see her at all costs and, as soon as he saw her, he fell in love and decided to kidnap her.

So, to save the girl, the motherly Venus wrapped her up in her cloak and pulled her close, carrying her away from Pluto.

After a short journey, Venus lovingly placed Deli in the sea, transforming her into an island, that would then be known as Favignana. She entrusted her to the Nereids, who cared for her until the birth of the demigods Hiera and Pharbantia, that were then called Marettimo and Levanzo.

This is how the archipelago of the Aegadian Islands, whose name in Greek means “favourable, propitious”, perhaps because of the mildness of the climate and the prosperity of the sea, was formed.
